Then cast mana clash as i beleive there were 2 mages in the battle also. That took care of them. Dog and Alistair and my self went to town hacking and slashing. Is there any reason other than having Dog rescue you to go to Fort Drakon as opposed to fighting Ser Cauthrien?

Fighting Sir Cauthrien is generally acknowledged as very very difficult a fight to win when you first encounter her rescuing the princess, so it's just a bragging rights reward more then anything.
