Sealing the tiles will make daily maintenance easier. As part of your cleaning routine use LTP Waxwash, which is a high-quality liquid soap suitable for all types of natural stone, making it ideal for use on travertine, limestone, sandstone, slate, marble, granite, porcelain, terracotta, terrazzo, concrete, quarry tiles and flagstones.

It also has a fresh, clean fragrance. Simply dilute two or three capfuls five capfuls on dirtier floors in a bucket of warm water. Wash the floor and allow to dry — no need for rinsing, although polished finished will benefit from buffing with a dry soft cloth.

Hi Guys I have a stone tiler fixing some carrara bianco in my bathroom. He says it's not necessary to seal the tiles before grouting and that he's done it many times without problems He has 25 yrs experience in stone work However you have previously recommended to me that the tiles be sealed prior to grouting and I have read that recommendation several times in other posts and on other forums.

Can you please tell me what the issues or risks are with not sealing before grouting so I can make the call. Thanks in advance. Sort by date Sort by votes. Your tiler is right.. Not all stone needs sealing first.. So yes, it is ok to seal afterwards with certain stones.

All natural stone should be sealed prior to and after grouting, you may end up with grout haze or staining to the surface of your tiles, your fixer should already know the potential problems. Dave said:. Click to expand Well that just put me in my place Dave, I was under the impression that its best to seal all stone mate? We do advise members who are new to stone work to seal first.. BUT this also depends upon grout colour..

Anyone who is unfamiliar with certain stones then always seal first.. Apart from slates and certain limestones.. Just to add if this was a members of the public then yes seal first.. Seal unfilled Trav first I dont seal unfilled trav prior to grouting because it would cause problems with the grout filling the holes.

Thanks for your replies. The stone should have a glossy look and feel to it afterwards. You should use an impregnating sealant for the process. These will give you the optimum result. You can use any of this for this process.

Allow the sealer to set into the marble for about 15 minutes. But if the tile starts to dry before that, add another layer to maintain the glossiness. Use a dry cloth to clean off the excess sealant. Then allow it to set for an hour or so. In the meantime, avoid the area. Moreover if you have too many pets , make sure to install a barricade. You have to reapply the sealant again, once it has set. Repeat the same process of using a sponge to apply sealant.

Then, again wait for another 15 minutes. Wipe off the excess after that. The second layer will add a safety coat for the first layer. This layering will make the marble sealant work better. For this time along, allow at least 40 minutes for the sealer to dry. However, before you grout, wait at least 5 days. Also, check the sealant package for the time duration as well. After your sealant has fully cured you can get started on your grouting process.

Make sure to mix the grout mixture well. After that, you can start grouting the marble tiles. Now you have to wait at least 24 hours before that grout starts to set.
