Wentz doesn't provide a ton of upside in his new digs, but he has been a surprisingly safe fantasy option with an TD:INT ratio through seven games this season.
The Colts will face a stiff test against the Titans next Sunday. Wentz completed 11 of 20 passes for yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's win over Houston. He added one rushing yard on two attempts.
Wentz opened the scoring with a yard deep ball to Parris Campbell late in the first quarter and added a yard touchdown to Mo Alie-Cox in the third to give the Colts a lead, then deferred to Jonathan Taylor and the ground game as the Colts ran away with it. He has quietly amassed an efficient TD:INT this season, including multiple touchdown passes in each of the past three games.
Wentz will look to keep that streak going on the road in Week 7 against a 49ers team that will be coming out of its bye. Wentz completed 25 of 35 passes for yards and two touchdowns in Monday night's overtime loss to the Ravens.
He also was sacked twice and lost a fumble. Wentz started the night with a screen pass that Jonathan Taylor took 76 yards for a touchdown, giving the Colts their first first-quarter TD all season. The signal-caller then led his team into the red zone on his second series, only to be sacked while losing a fumble in the process. To begin the third quarter, Wentz added another touchdown thanks to a remarkable contested grab by Michael Pittman that went for 42 yards.
Along with his big scoring plays, Wentz made hay with intermediate and short completions, helping him rack up his most yardage yet as a Colt. Although his plus yards still weren't enough to clinch a victory as the defense collapsed down the stretch against Lamar Jackson, Wentz at least approaches Week 6's favorable matchup against the Texans coming off a strong performance. Wentz was listed as a full participant on the Colts ' initial Week 5 injury report released Thursday, an indication that the team is comfortable with his health after he sprained both of his ankles in a Week 2 loss to the Rams, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.
Felt good the next morning and the extra rest here early in the week has definitely helped as well. The Colts' injury report featured "ankle" rather than "ankles" next to his name, suggesting that he's at least percent recovered from one of the sprains. The other ankle sprain doesn't look like it will bother him much moving forward, either, even though he had a rough outing in his first game coming off the injury in the Week 3 loss to the Titans.
Wentz bounced back well in Week 4 with his best performance as a Colt, completing 24 of 32 attempts for yards and two touchdowns while carrying five times for eight yards. Wentz's involvement in the run game was a particularly encouraging sight, given that he didn't attempt any runs against the Titans in his first game coming off the injury. The Colts shouldn't have to adjust their game plan out of any concern for Wentz's health in Monday's contest in Baltimore.
Wentz ankles completed 24 of 32 passes for yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Colts ' win over the Dolphins on Sunday. He also rushed five times for eight yards. Playing through twin ankle sprains for the second straight week, Wentz turned in a solid, mistake-free workmanlike effort to help the Colts garner their first win of the season.
The offseason arrival got plenty of help from Jonathan Taylor on the ground, and he connected with a whopping 10 different pass catchers. Wentz appeared to be moving a bit better than during a Week 3 loss to the Titans, and he's now put together a fantasy-friendly TD:INT through four games.
Wentz has still to notch his first yard effort as a member of the Colts, however, a matter he'll look to rectify in a Week 5 road battle against the Ravens on Monday, Oct. Wentz ankles is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
As expected, Wentz will continue to tough it out through his ankle woes, and while the QB still isn't percent, he noted heading into Week 4 action that he's "definitely in a better place than last week. Wentz ankles is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins after being listed as limited at practice this past week.
That said, there's nothing to suggest that the QB's Week 4 status is in danger after he toughed it out through his ankle woes in the team's loss to the Titans last Sunday. Earlier this week, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin relayed that Wentz was feeling better than he did leading up to Week 3 action, so while the QB still isn't percent, it's plausible that he'll be able to move around better this weekend, assuming he's active as expected.
Wentz ankles was a limited participant in Thursday's practice. While tending to sprains of both ankles, Wentz only managed one limited practice last week before playing every snap in the Colts ' loss to the Titans.
Though he didn't attempt a run for the first time all the season and was inaccurate in the pocket for for yards , Wentz appears to have come out of the game in better health. He's turned in a pair of limited practices to begin Week 4, a sign that he's on track to start again Sunday in Miami. That said, head coach Frank Reich believes that the quarterback is in "a better spot" this week after toughing it out through sprains to both ankles in the team's Week 3 loss to the Titans. With that in mind, Reich expects Wentz's mobility to be better this week, and at this stage, there's no doubt regarding the signal-caller's playing status for Sunday's game in Miami.
Brett Hundley is once again in line to serve as his top backup this weekend. Wentz completed 19 of 37 passes for yards in Sunday's loss to the Titans. Wentz notably was playing with two banged-up ankles, and despite seeing All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson exit early Sunday, he was able to complete the contest. Although Wentz showed grit in doing so, he didn't make much of an impact as a passer and missed an open Michael Pittman on a would-be touchdown as well. Without a win from his first three games as a Colt, Wentz should be especially eager to taste victory Week 4 versus the Dolphins.
Wentz ankles is listed active for Sunday's game against the Titans. Per ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Stephen Holder of The Athletic, Wentz -- who injured both of his ankles during Week 2 action -- is slated to start the contest after practicing Friday with heavily-taped ankles and moving around well in the process during the media-access portion of the session.
Former Indianapolis Colts franchise quarterback Andrew Luck is long gone and has no inkling of returning, but recently re-signed wide receiver T. Hilton sees some similar traits in Carson Wentz.
The new quarterback was announced by the team on March 17 when the new league year began, and he had been hoping the Colts would re-sign Hilton. They eventually did, bringing the Ghost back on a one-year deal.
A lot of work has to be done with Wentz both physically and mentally in the pocket, but the Colts feel they have the right staff and system in place to do so. Hilton re-signing will be big for Wentz. Hilton also told the media that Wentz has been wanting Hilton to re-sign ever since the new quarterback arrived on the scene.
