Why is taylor swift so skinny

I remember her body from that time — on the red carpet, in a photoshoot for Vogue. Swift helped popularize the high midriff, a strip of skin visible between high-waisted skirts or shorts and crop tops, but Spears standardized the low midriff, tanned and muscular, just above a pair of jeans slung so low that a pair of thong underwear peeped out. That was the thing about the Britney stomach, too: for most women, especially women older than 17, it was just fucking impossible.

Which is part of why it was the ideal, of course: because it was essentially unobtainable for the vast majority of the population. You see the goal and you make a plan to achieve it. For some perfectionists, that plan can expand into a more visible, and more life-threatening, eating disorder. My own disordered eating started to shift when I was 30 and working at a boarding school that required spending a significant amount of time eating with and around teenage girls.

At first, it was hard to convince myself to eat a normal lunch, instead of just scavenging on granola bars and a piece of fruit the way I had for the last decade. Swift had a similar revelation, but the documentary as a whole suggests that it was part and parcel of a much larger reckoning with who she was, what she wanted, and what she wanted to stand for — which was also what happened to me, as I entered into my thirties, and a new career, after graduate school.

I think it will have a huge impact. If you read her quotes about women and body image and aging and the way that women are treated in our industry and portrayed in the media, I swear the way she speaks is like lyrics, and it gets stuck in my head and it calms me down. Because women are held to such a ridiculous standard of beauty. Swift says that her under-eating in that earlier time severely affected her stamina on tour. Of course I eat. I exercise a lot. Few women viewing the film will fail to nod their heads as Swift describes the impossibility of any body shape or size living up to all the standards for beauty.

But you can decide whose opinions matter more and whose opinions you put more weight on. But I am actually really happy. Because I pick and choose now, for the most part, what I care deeply about. I think it will have a huge impact. Wilson's candid documentary follows Swift during a turbulent period of her life, opening with a scene where the star learns her album Reputation has been snubbed by the Grammys.

The incident acts as a framing device, as the star realises she needs to stop trying to please everyone else and focus on what makes her happy. Wilson pays particular attention to Swift's political awakening, as she sues a Colorado disc jockey for sexual assault and begins to speak out against conservative lawmakers. She expresses regret for not opposing Donald Trump in the election for fear it would alienate fans; and meets with opposition from her team when she decides to endorse the Democrats in Tennessee's elections.

As she is about to press send on an Instagram post about Blackburn, her publicist warns that "the president could come after you".

Swift replies with an expletive, adding: "I don't care. The documentary also includes some tender moments, with Swift describing how she fell in love with British actor Joe Alwyn. The star says she was attracted by his "wonderful, normal, balanced kind of life," and that he helped anchor her during one of the most difficult periods in her life.

However, critics felt that the officially-approved documentary only skimmed the surface of Swift's true story. If you have a story suggestion email entertainment. Taylor Swift to headline Sunday at Glastonbury. Taylor Swift blasts 'toxic male privilege' in music.
